2025 International Juried Exhibition
The Center for Photographic Art (CPA) located in the historic Sunset Center, is pleased to announce their 2025 International Juried Exhibition.
This year’s International Juried Exhibition is an beautiful show with a diverse array of images, processes, and genres. The juror, renowned artist, writer, and educator, Cig Harvey, had quite a challenge sorting through the 2400 images submitted to the competition to arrive at just 50 for the gallery exhibition. Here’s an excerpt from their juror statement about this process:
It was my pleasure to jury the International Exhibition at the Center for Photographic Art. I worked intuitively in my selections. The pieces that called to me, ultimately, were quiet, appearing like small flashes of histories, some invented and others discovered. From aging still lives to untouched landscapes to portraits so rich in narrative that you can see a whole life pass before your eyes, these works stood out for their visual power and ability to hold the viewer in a memory not their own. Of thousands of submissions, I am delighted to share these selections and hope they resonate with you as much as they did with me.
Cig Harvey’s selections come from artists who live as close as Carmel and Santa Cruz and as far away as the Japan and Scotland. This is a must-see exhibition which includes the finest of contemporary photography, incredible landscapes, mixed media sculptures, documentary street photography, portraiture, and more, plus a quick lesson in the history and the possibilities of the medium. You’ll see historic processes like platinum printing and cyanotypes, plus large scale digital prints and collaged pieces. The award winners will be announced during the opening reception on December 6. And our British-born juror, who lives in Maine, is flying out for the reception and awards ceremony, so come meet her in person and raise a glass to our talented featured artists!
